Although the cost of living is lower in Alabama than in several other states, the average household in Alabama owes about $7,105 to creditors. Analysts attribute the increased spending amongst Alabama residents as a sign consumers were feeling optimistic about the economy and were taking on additional debt without necessarily preparing for a financial emergency.
